HAMMOND - About The Manufacturer

Hammond Manufacturing was founded in 1917 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. In the early years, the Company manufactured radios, power amplifiers and battery eliminators. During the late 1920's Hammond focused its efforts on the manufacturing of transformers for the broadcast and communications industries. The explosive demand for electrical products of all kinds during the 1950's and 1960's created many opportunities for new products and diversification. During these years Hammond became a leading supplier of transformers and enclosures for the electrical and electronic industries.

Through the last three decades, the Company expanded its focus on the U.S. and International markets. Hammond made a number of strategic acquisitions of transformer companies and became one of the largest suppliers of magnetics to the North American electrical OEM market. It has also formed several strategic alliances with U.S. and European companies to broaden its already extensive offering of enclosures and related accessories. In January 2001, the Hammond Transformer Group was spun off to form a new independent company, Hammond Power Solutions, Inc. The core products for Hammond Manufacturing continue as electrical enclosures, electronic packaging, power bars and electronic transformers and the next chapter for the Company began.

Today, Hammond Manufacturing is a global company with customers worldwide. Our 500 plus employees work together to deliver on our promise of quality products and service excellence. High performance manufacturing equipment and continuous improvement management techniques combine to enhance our reputation for quality. Ongoing efforts to differentiate ourselves through high levels of service and customer satisfaction are a key corporate focus. These are the cornerstones to our future success.

Operating from facilities in Canada, the United States and Europe, Hammond offers a broad range of standard products, modification services and technical support to electrical and electronic manufacturers, utilities and institutions through a global network of agents and distributors.

Hammond Power Solutions (HPS) - History

Hammond Power Solutions (HPS), originally known as O.S. Hammond and Son was established in 1917 in Guelph, Ontario by Oliver Hammond to build various tools for the foundry industry. O.S. Hammond and Son began making tube radio sets, battery chargers and other related products between 1919 and 1927. Their philosophy for quality and success was simple. "Build the product like you were going to use it yourself". Oliver passed away in 1925 and his four eldest sons took over the business. It was in 1927 that the company changed their name to Hammond Manufacturing. Along with the name change came other transformations. At this time, the Hammond family changed their focus from radios to transformers and filter chokes for broadcast transmitters and AC radio.

about_hammond

With the start of World War II in 1939, Hammond started to build specialized transformers and reactors for military communication and radar equipment. Almost overnight the Company grew from under 50 employees to over 300 to satisfy the critical surge in demand for transformers.

The most recent change at Hammond was in 2001 when Hammond Manufacturing officially became two companies. Rob Hammond headed Hammond Manufacturing, which manufactures electrical enclosures, electronic packaging, power bars, and electronic transformers. Bill Hammond renamed his transformer division Hammond Power Solutions, which manufactures custom and catalog transformers and related magnetics. This reorganization has enabled both companies to pursue their strategic goals independently, providing an orderly succession to the next generation of the Hammond family and an opportunity to create increased enterprise and shareholder value. Behind the Hammond name is a rich history spanning over 90 years.
